For the first time NPE 2013 held a two-hour “sneak peak” on the first night following a full day of educational sessions. The preview night was so well received it will be repeated in 2014.
Exhibiting for the first time at NPE Caterpillar Inc. showcased its 289C2 high-flow compact track loader, its CB24 5952-pound dual drum vibratory utility roller, and its AP255E track paver featuring a standard paving width of 4.6 – 8.5 feet, a max paving speed of 108 feet per minute, and a 109-cubic-foot-capacity hopper.
The 600/15 mill wasn’t big enough so Bryan Myers (right, with Rachel Myers), president of B&C Blacktop, Columbus, OH, bought Bomag America’s Bomag 1300 milling machine, completing the purchase at NPE in Nashville. From left are Bomag America’s John Hood and Dale Alferink.
With a variety of pavers available, VT LeeBoy showcased its 8616 Track Paver. The model has a 9-ton receiving hopper capacity, 19,000-pound gross operating weight with screed, and a hydraulically extendable and vibrating screed. VT LeeBoy also exhibited its asphalt distributor that is available in 150-, 250- or 500-gallon capacity. The unit has a 6-foot wand with on/off valve, electrical breaks and optional spraybar.
Crafco Inc., manufacturer of crack sealant, joint sealant, patching products and related application equipment, exhibited several cracksealing units including the E-Z Series II Melter/Applicators and the Model 30 Router. Crafco also released its new PLEXI-melt, a meltable package for hot-applied modified asphalt sealant used for cracks and joints.
Elgin Sweeper Co. was in attendance with the Crosswind, a sweeping unit that is Tier 4i compliant, designed with EcoInfused Technology, has increased fuel efficiency, reduced CO² emissions, reduced noise and a patent-pending shared power system. Another Elgin model onsite was the Broom Badger, a unit that has a Tier 4i Kubota 59-horsepower diesel engine, dual gutter brooms, direct-drive brooms with in-cab control for down pressure, tilt angle, and a 220-gallon water tank.
Described as “a big sweeper in a small frame,” the Stewart-Amos Starfire S-4 does not require the operator have a CDL. It features a cab-over chassis and short wheel base, a 10 foot-sweeping path, and a 4 cubic yard hopper.
In addition to featuring its full line of pavement marking materials and related equipment, Rae Products & Chemicals used NPE to make contractors aware of the company’s new website, www.RaePaint.com.
Not only did NPE 2013 experience a 43% increase in attendance over 2012 but contractors took full advantage of the 53 seminar and workshop programs resulting in the best-attended conference program in almost 10 years.
Exhibiting at NPE for the first time Wirtgen America featured its line of Hamm rollers (including the HD 12) and its Vision Series of Vogele asphalt pavers. Available in both wheeled and track models, the Vision Series is available in classes: the 8-foot Universal Class (Vision 5100-2 and 5103-2 models)and the 10-foot Highway Class (models 5200-2 and 5203-2) for higher paving speeds.
