And the winner is.... Oscar!

After hundreds of entries, City of Lake Oswego names three street sweepers

In an effort to educate residents about the sweeping industry, the City of Lake Oswego,OR, enlisted the help of residents to name their new street sweepers.

Lake Oswegans both young and old came up with more than 300 names for three new sweeping units, including a new Schwarze A7000 Tornado Sweeper. From Dirt Vader to Sweeping Beauty, people were excited to be a part of the contest. Operators and City Officials whittled the entries down and residents were again asked to choose their favorites.

And the winners are? Oscar, Roovis and Bert!

The A7000 Tornado will now be known as Oscar the “Oswego Sweeper Car," while Roovis (Rapid Oscillating Oswego Vehicle of Intense Sanitation) and BERT (whose name comes from the street sweeper in the movie Mary Poppins), are the names given to the other two sweepers.

“The naming and coloring contests have helped give an identity to the sweepers,” Christine Kirk, public affairs manager for Lake Oswego says. Oscar, Roovis and Bert will travel more than 6,000 miles a year in Lake Oswego, helping to keep streets and water safe and clean. Kirk hopes to use the characters more regularly in future communication with residents.
