It will provide for 70 percent handicap accessibility. More than $429,000 has been raised to make this goal a reality.
"The community build will basically be several groups of volunteers, each taking one small segment of the structure and assembling it," said Mary Ann Haase, design and construction chairwoman for the playground.
Volunteers will be led by a factory-trained installer, who will give them basic instructions, Haase said.
They will start by gathering all the pieces they need for their swing set, climber and ramp and will organize the materials and follow step-by-step instructions to assemble the structures.
Volunteers don't need to have any construction skills, Haase said, "but being good with your Legos or erector set as a child will really come in handy."
