Playground Seeking Construction Help

By Margaret Schonberg
St. Tammany bureau Times-Picayune (New Orleans)

Some of the activities the playground will have are:

-- A fully accessible water table with shoots and bowls with a running water source;

-- Talking Turf -- a series of buttons on the ground that make a different sound when stepped on;

-- A rope tower where a child can sit in the bottom of a bowl shape or climb to the top; the entire thing will spin;

-- A sand play area complete with accessible sand tables and diggers;

-- A variety of musical instruments, including a marimba, an alligator drum and bongo drums, which will be tuned so a musician could play on them;

-- A sway fun, which is a huge accessible area onto which a child can sit or roll their wheelchair and sway;

-- Sensory gardens that will have plants, shrubs and trees of a variety of colors, textures and scents.
