As Republicans assess the future of their party, there are already reports of a leadership shake-up for House Republicans. Some members are repeating their conclusions from the 2006 elections that Republicans must become even more fiscally conservative. While it is unclear if other members of the House and Senate will embrace this perspective, it bears watching as it could impact efforts to increase federal transportation investment.
Despite the changes in the political climate in Washington, D.C., following the 2008 elections, ARTBA will continue to work with members of both parties who support improving the nation's transportation infrastructure network. As a result of this focus, ARTBA's role and ability to advocate the interests of the transportation construction industry do not waver from election to election.
Newly Elected Members of Congress and Governors
As of November 5, 51 new members of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives were elected along with three new governors. ARTBA and its leadership will begin scheduling meetings with these newly elected officials and their staffs, to inform them of the importance of transportation investment, as they begin the transition process.
