Bill Kelley, the county's building safety chief, said his counters are staying open until 7 p.m. Monday for anyone trying to squeak in under the old rules. Other county offices lock up at noon.
"It's all driven by the insurance industry," Kelley said.
Kelley, deputy director of the county Community Development Agency's Building and Safety Division, said his division's goal is "to try to be as helpful as possible in this transition."
Klif Knoles, general manager of the Marin Builders Association, said builders appreciate the county keeping its building department open later on Monday.
