Contractor Appeals OSHA Fine, Judge Upholds and Increases Fine

Crane operator reported cable needed to be replaced but supervisors chose not to fix the issue before the cable broke on the jobsite

Tennessee contractor Mountain States Contractors LLC appealed an OSHA willful violation and $56,000 fine after a crane collapse at a construction site in late 2013, but a federal administrative law judge upheld the violation and even increased the fine against the contractor to $60,000. The judge increased the fine saying that four supervisors with the authority to correct any deficiency chose not to.
