Keystone XL Bill Clears Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee

House expected to pass the bill but it may face challenges in the Senate

Politico

The Senate energy committee approved pro-Keystone legislation on Thursday. The legislation was introduced by Sen. John Hoeven (R- N.D.) and Sen. Joe Manchin (D- W. Va.). The bill now has 63 supporters in the upper chamber, but is still 67 votes short to override a presidential veto.

The bill will go to the SEnate next week, but the open amendment process could pose a few challenges for supporters. Supporters hope to add measures to attract new support to the Senate bill.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is confident that Democrats could uphold a veto even with the Republicans' majority.
