ACI 310 – Decorative Concrete, has become a joint committee of the American Concrete Institute (ACI) and the American Society of Concrete Contractors (ASCC), St. Louis, Mo., according to Bruce Suprenant, technical director, ASCC. Committee chair is Clark Branum, Diamatic.
The mission of ACI 310 is to “develop and report information on the application of artistic finishes of cast-in-place concrete.” The committee has published ACI 310R-13, Guide to Decorative Concrete. The guide describes techniques for imparting decorative finishes to concrete flatwork including detailed, practical guidance for achieving aesthetic effects using proven techniques. Recommendations are made for the production of cast-in-place decorative concrete flatwork, decorative stains, and overlays.
“The Decorative Concrete Council (DCC) has been a specialty council of the ASCC for 20 years,“ says Branum, ”and many DCC members are active on ACI 310. It makes perfect sense to bring the expertise and experiences of the two groups to bear more closely on this committee.”
The ASCC is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the capabilities of those who build with concrete, and to providing them a unified voice in the construction industry. Members include concrete contracting firms, manufacturers, suppliers and others interested in the concrete industry such as architects, specifiers and engineers. There are approximately 750 member companies in the United States and 11 foreign countries.
