The Concrete Foundations Association (CFA), a North American association dedicated to improving the quality and acceptance of cast-in-place concrete foundations, has announced the newest terms for its Board of Directors as well as a new president to direct its next two-year period.

During the CFA Annual Convention, held at the Grand Traverse Resort in Acme, Mich., members in attendance elected a slate of candidates to fill the Board of Directors seats available. Sean Smith of MPW Construction Services in Wellington, Ohio, and Doug Herbert of Herbert Construction Company in Marietta, Ga., became the newest members of the Board for three-year terms.

Valerie Gore of Solid Foundations in Bellevue, Ohio; Phillip Marone of Marone Contractors Inc. in Thorofare, N.J.; Dennis Purinton of Purinton Builders Inc. in East Granby, Conn.; and Dan Bromley of ABI Corporation, Lee’s Summit, Mo., were re-elected to the Board for three-year terms.

Also at the meeting, Jim Bartley of The Bartley Corporation in Silver Springs, Md., assumed the role of CFA president, replacing Tim Parrish of Cornerstone Foundations in Harrisonburg, Va.. Bartley had previously served as chair of the CFA Membership Committee and CFA vice president and is currently focused on building back the strength of the association and the recognition of the benefit to the membership. Bartley becomes the 25th president in the history of the CFA and only the third second-generation president following his father’s leadership from 1983 to 1984.

“With an economy that is trending upward, my goal is to actively pursue an upswing in CFA membership and expand the CFA initiatives that are in the works,” Bartley said. “Companies like mine have gone far too long without spending dollars on education, equipment and process upgrades. By reconnecting with the CFA, companies can immediately become CFA certified, embark on self-insurance, expand their knowledge and improve their processes. Gaining knowledge at our Summer Convention and Flatwork forum, defending our interests at ACI in Toronto, becoming CFA certified at World of Concrete, and sharing ideas on LinkedIn is there for the taking! Our CFA calling is to do together what we cannot do alone. Our goal is to bring more companies together in many different ways.”

With the transition of president and the election of new board members, the CFA Board also finalized the slate of officers for the next year. Tim Parrish becomes the CFA Chairman of the Board for a two-year term after serving two years as president. Joining him and Bartley on the executive committee are David Martinson of Martinson Construction from Waterloo, Iowa, as vice president; Dennis Purinton as secretary; and Phillip Marone as treasurer. This executive committee will lead the CFA Board and the Association for the next year under Bartley’s executive leadership.

“We are very pleased with the executive leadership and the new members of the CFA Board for this next cycle,” said Executive Director, Ed Sauter. “The success of any non-profit organization such as the CFA can be directly attributed to the passion and energy of the leadership nominated to serve and the way that leadership interacts effectively with the professional staff. I am very confident in our ability to continue pursuing some of the most aggressive and beneficial initiatives this industry has ever seen.”

The CFA Board for this next cycle will focus on the finalization of the Protected-Risk Insurance Captive for CFA members; seek to strengthen and affirm the national presence of a cohesive position on fall protection for residential foundations; and focus on growth of the Association through leading contractors in their respective regions that identify with the advantages and opportunities for networking within their industry.
