About 35 miles north of Atlanta along Interstate 75, LakePoint Sporting Community serves as one of the largest and most popular youth travel sports destinations in the country. LakePoint Sporting Community recently partnered with Bartow County and the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) to construct a two-mile parkway as the complex’s primary transportation corridor with adjacent land for future hotels, restaurants and other amenities. Rinker Materials produced more than 13,000 lineal feet of concrete pipe, including sections that withstand up to 82-ft. of fill, for the LakePoint Parkway Extension stormwater system.

Inconspicuously located between the North Georgia Mountains and Lake Allatoona, LakePoint Sporting Community’s commitment to giving athletes, their families and other visitors the best possible experience led to the new LakePoint Parkway Extension. In the first phase of the project, Wright Brothers Construction excavated more than 2.2 million cubic yards of earth before installing a 27,000-lb. precast concrete manhole base and concrete pipe ranging from 15-in. in diameter to 66-in. in diameter for the stormwater system.

The installation included customized 42-in. and 48-in. diameter concrete pipe placed 70 to 80 ft. deep, and customized 66-in. diameter concrete pipe placed 40 to 50 ft. deep. The GDOT-certified concrete pipe from Rinker Materials delivers the long-term structural integrity to handle more than 30 tons of fill in the stormwater system designed by DCE, Inc. and Southland Engineering.

Pipe3Rinker Materials“We needed a partner that could produce a vast amount of high-quality concrete pipe and have it delivered quickly to stay on schedule. Rinker and its team at the Stockbridge plant met all of our expectations on the job,” said Tony Kelly, superintendent for Wright Brothers Construction. “This was especially challenging when you consider how much custom-designed concrete pipe was required to accommodate some of the depths and fill. We are completely confident that the stormwater system will stand the test of time as LakePoint Sporting Community continues to evolve and hosts millions of guests in the future.”

The 1,300-acre complex, LakePoint Sporting Community currently features eight baseball fields, three multi-purpose fields, 10 beach volleyball courts, three cable wakeboarding pools, and a 170,000-square-foot indoor facility with 12 basketball courts that convert into 24 volleyball courts. The new LakePoint Parkway Extension helps set the stage for additional state-of-the-art sports venues and five-million-square-feet of amenities including on-site hotels, restaurants, themed retail, bowling, ziplines, water parks and entertainment venues.
