[VIDEO] 3D-Printed Precast Panels Form Concrete Facade of Former Sugar Factory

The flexibility of 3D printed precast panels helps architects achieve an exterior facade that looks like sugar crystals as a nod to the building's former owner, Domino Sugar Refinery.

Precast concrete is traditionally set in wood molds that require regular upkeep after a certain number of castings. The wood molds are also limited in shape by what is physically possible for a carpenter to create. For the Domino Sugar Factory redevelopment project in Brooklyn, Gate Precast brought in 3D-printed concrete molds to achieve the architects desired vision.
