The 988K XE with switched reluctance (SR) technology is the first wheel loader offered by Caterpillar with a high-efficiency electric drive system. The new loader increases efficiency by 25% overall and by up to 49% in face-loading applications as compared to the 988K. At the same time, Caterpillar production studies report it delivers up to 10% higher productivity in load-and-carry applications. The unit maintains the C18 ACERT engine (which powers the generator), mechanical dropbox, driveline and axles from the 988K for consistent, trouble-free operation.
