ESAB has showcased the Ruffian ES 150G, an engine-driven welding generator offering 150-amp Stick welding output and 4,500 watts of peak 120/240V AC power. The Ruffian ES 150G combines welding technology from ESAB’s Rogue Stick inverter with the reliability of a 14-hp KOHLER Command PRO engine. The machine is built for construction, service trucks, farm and ranch, light fabrication, maintenance and other outdoor applications where on-site portability is necessary.

Ruffian expands ESAB’s industry-leading portfolio of products for welding and cutting in the field, which includes Victor gas equipment, Thermal Dynamics manual plasma cutters, and portable welders such as Rogue, Renegade, and Rebel.”
The Ruffian delivers 150A of welding power at 60 percent duty cycle and runs electrodes up to 5/32-in. diameter. It provides arc starts and an adjustable Arc Force control that enables a stable welding arc with all types of DC Stick electrodes. This includes electrodes such as low-hydrogen 7018 electrodes used for high-strength welds, cellulosic electrodes (6010/6011) common for repairs on dirty or rusty metals or general-purpose welding and hard facing electrodes.
“The Ruffian ES 150G features an ergonomic, properly balanced design that makes it easy to lift, and its industrial grade wheels roll over rugged terrain,” added Peter Burchfield, global director for Light Industrial Products at ESAB. “With its small footprint, it takes up little space on a service truck or bed of a pickup truck. We designed this product for customers working ‘on the go’ because we recognize the challenges of working in environments outside of the fabrication shop.”

The unit weighs 236 lbs. and has lifting points that make it possible to manually team lift into a truck or has an optional lifting eye for using a forklift or crane to lift the unit. Rigid frame supports also allow for the unit to be truck mounted.
The Ruffian ES 150G has four 120V receptacles and one 240V receptacle. This auxiliary output can run, grinders, drills, saws, lights, radio, air compressors, pressure washers, pumps, refrigerators, furnace blower, microwaves and motors up to ¾ hp. It has a peak (or surge) output of 4,500 watts for starting performance and continuous output of 4,000 watts to also run independent welding machines and plasma cutters. With its 5-gallon gas tank, it offers 6.5 hours of run time at maximum output.
