The First National Pavement Preservation Conference is scheduled to be held August 27-30, 2012 in downtown Nashville, Tennessee at the Renaissance Nashville Hotel.

The first morning of the Conference will feature four concurrent meetings of the Midwestern, Northeast, Rocky Mountain West, and Southeast Pavement Preservation Partnerships, to be followed by the Conference’s Opening Plenary Session. All delegates are cordially invited to attend any of the four partnership meeting sessions.

Confirmed keynote speakers include:

  • Robert E. Skinner, Jr., Executive Director of the Transportation Research Board (TRB)
  • Walter (Richie) Beyer, President of the National Association of County Engineers (NACE)
  • Baxter Burns, President, Board of Directors of the Asphalt Institute.
  • Micheal Lewis, Vice President, AASHTO

The afternoon of first day of the Conference will conclude with an Agency Plenary Session, Agency Executive Round-Table Discussion, and an overview of the field demonstration planned for the second morning.

A field demonstration will also be held a short distance from the hotel, featuring live placement of several asphalt pavement preservation treatments, including a Chip Seal, Microsurfacing, a Scrub Seal, Surface Re-texturing, and Rejuvenation. Other Flexible and Rigid pavement demonstrations are planned, including fog seals, dowel bar load transfer retrofits, diamond grinding, and joint sealing as an example. All of the demonstrated treatments are to be placed adjacent to each other in a small, protected area, thereby obviating the need for traffic control and affording the delegates maximum movement flexibility and opportunities to have their questions answered.

Conference sessions will feature 7 tracks which take a multi-faceted approach to pavement preservation ranging from the details of individual treatments to the intricacies of managing large and small networks; educating and informing the public and elected officials; innovation and research; economics; and environmental protection.

The seven tracks feature 24 sessions spread over two days to give delegates maximum flexibility to attend topic areas of greatest interest.

Scheduled sessions include topics such as flexible and rigid pavements; existing and innovative materials; communications and marketing; best practices; and short-term and long-term planning. Local agency delegates will be particularly interested in two sessions specially planned for them – “Best Local Agency Practices” and “Implementing a Local Agency Program”.

The Renaissance Nashville Hotel is offering a special rate of $110 per night for conference attendees and guests. A spouse program is also planned featuring informative and entertaining tours of Nashville’s top attractions.
