TransCanada Suspends Request to Build Keystone Pipeline

If Obama administration grants the delay it would push off a decision until after the 2016 presidential election

The New York Times

The company seeking to build the Keystone XL pipeline has asked the Obama administration to suspend its yearlong review of the project. If the administration grants the delay it would push off a decision until after the 2016 presidential election.

The request comes nearly one month after TransCanada withdrew its eminent domain claims to land on the Keystone XL pipeline's proposed route. The move could have helped the company to circumvent one of the major roadblocks to the project but could also have added lengthy delays to the project and process.

TransCanada sent its official letter to the State Department asking for the department to suspend its evaluation of the pipeline proposal until after the state of Nebraska has completed its own project review.
