Stalled Transportation Funding Makes Top 5 Political Stories in PA

In April, Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett announced the formation of a special advisory commission charged with coming up with a way to raise $2.5 billion for road and bridge repairs.

The commission released a report in August that recommended, among other things, that the state approve an inflationary bump on registration and drivers' license renewal fees and raise wholesale gasoline taxes.

Corbett promised to review the document and release his recommendations to lawmakers. But late in the year, the Republican signalled that he thought it was an issue that would likely have to wait until the economy improved.
