Oldenburg Group to Build Chinese Equipment in the Midwest

Five-year contract worth 'more than $100 million' will have Chinese-designed wind-turbine cranes and other heavy equipment used in shipyards and bridge construction in WI or MI

It's not often that a Chinese company outsources work to the United States, but a Glendale, Wis., firm has signed a five-year, $100 million deal to build Chinese equipment here -- a move that could create several hundred jobs.

Oldenburg Group, a manufacturer of heavy equipment and lighting products, signed an agreement with Zhengzhou New Dafang Heavy Industry Science and Technology Co. to build products for the North American market.

The products include wind-turbine cranes and other heavy equipment such as machines used in shipyards and bridge construction.

Oldenburg says the products could be built at its factory in Rhinelander, Wis., or at its plant in Iron River, Mich.

"At a time when so many American products are produced in Chinese factories, we are happy to return the favor," company President Timothy Nerenz said Monday.
