Senate Highway Bill would Send $1.5 Billion in Federal Funds to NJ

Largest public-transportation funding support ever actually reduces federal support for New Jersey roads

New Jersey would get its highest amount of public transportation funding ever — $519 million per year — under the federal highway bill passed by the Senate on Wednesday.

People who take public transportation to work and seniors also would benefit from the bill.

But New Jersey, and other states, would get less money for road projects than in 2011. New Jersey would get $988 million, which is a 4.6 percent decrease from the $1.04 billion it received last year. Overall, New Jersey would get $1.5 billion for transportation needs.
