According to TheHill.com, in a 266 to 158 vote, the House approved a 90-day extension of federal highway programs before the current federal authorization expires on Sunday.
In a show of bipartisanship, 37 Democrats voted yes and only 10 Republicans voted no.
Now the ball is back in the Senate's court, which has to decide whether or not to accept the extension bill, suggest changes or continue to push for the two-year extension previously approved by the Senate.
With the House ending its session at the end of the day Thursday and going on break, there is pressure on the Senate to make sure funding continues past Saturday.
The passage of the 90-day extension wasn't without argument and criticism. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) criticized the short-term extension for continuing uncertainty of jobs.
