The Obama administration's proposal requiring cars to get 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025 prompted the America Road and Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) to respond that less fuel tax money will then be available for construction projects, according to TheHill.com.
According to the article, ARTBA says the proposal will cost the highway trust fund $71 billion. The Obama administration has argued that the stricter mileage rules will save drivers about $1.7 trillion in fuel costs and reduce oil consumption by 12 billion barrels through 2025.
