The Virginia Senate is considering legislation that would raise the gasoline tax to help fund $4.5 billion over the next five years for transportation improvements.
According to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, "The new plan also would give localities across Virginia the option of imposing an additional 1-percent sales tax that in the Richmond area would raise an estimated $821.7 million over five years, and raise vehicle registration fees to pay for mass transit and rail."
