VA Governor Proposes Reducing Road Taxes by $300 Million

Republican anti-tax pressure and a legal challenge prompt negotiation on the already-passed state highway legislation

Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell offered the following changes to his transportation funding plan that passed in the 2013 General Assembly session:

  • Reduce fee for hybrid driver from $100 to $64
  • Reduce car-titling tax increase from 4.3 percent to 4.15 percent

The amendments would reduce the revenue raised from the governor’s original transportation plan by $300 million, according to the governor’s office.
