TX Legislature to Consider Earmarking Oil-Well Tax for Transport

Senate may vote during special session on transportation bill that the House approved in June

The Texas Legislature will get a third shot at passing a transportation bill this July during its  second special session.

Sen. Robert Nichols (R-Jacksonville) filed Senate Joint Resolution 1 that’s identical to the transportation measure that passed the house in June.

The bill proposes to take a portion of the so-called “severance tax” on every producing oil well in the state and earmark it for the state’s transportation fund rather than the Rainy Day Fund.
