To make it easier for corporate trainers to maintain ongoing training at their facilities, Crane Institute of America will feature “The Complete Package” at Booth 2973 in the Gold Lot at CONEXPO/CON-AGG, March 4-8, 2014.

“The Complete Package” is a new train-the-trainer combination program that allows trainers - in just two weeks’ time - to become a Crane Institute of America certified instructor and an authorized practical examiner for Crane Institute Certification (CIC), a nationally accredited, OSHA-recognized certification for crane operators, riggers, and signalpersons. In addition, trainers may lease Crane Institute of America’s online training program materials. Both limited and unlimited licenses are available.

“The Complete Package eliminates the cost for trainers to develop and maintain their own training programs, and it makes training more accessible to workers, thereby increasing job site safety,” said Jim Headley, director of Crane Institute of America.

Trainers participating in the mobile crane or rigger train-the-trainer courses will learn how to conduct the same training programs that are used by Crane Institute of America’s instructors. Trainer topics include “Learning how to be a great trainer and facilitator,” and “How to create a learning environment.” Certified instructors can purchase student materials, books, workbooks and other resources created for the training program.

According to Headley, quality training is more about the program than it is the instructor. “When provided with properly developed materials, good trainers have a greater chance of success," he commented.

Among the technical topics covered in the Mobile Crane Complete Package are current standards, causes of accidents, interpreting load charts, pre-op inspection, and crane setup. The Rigger/Signalperson Complete Package covers safe use of slings, wire rope, and hardware; current standards; pre-use inspection, hand/voice signals, and much more.

Successful completion of the CIC Authorized Practical Examiner portion of the package allows you to complete your own in-house practical exams to certify your crane operators, riggers and signalpersons to meet or exceed OSHA requirements.

In addition, Crane Institute will introduce other new training and inspection resources in 2014, including:

  • Licensed material for the Overhead Crane Operator Train-the-Trainer program.
  • Digital Inspection Checklists that interface with various digital tools, such as digital cameras.
  • Online Training courses that allows students to learn at their own pace. The self-directed instruction includes quizzes at completion of material presentation.
