World of Concrete 2014 Attendance Falls to Conexpo Competition

But exhibit space shows far more optimism than 2011, when the two shows last went head to head

Attendance numbers at the 40th World of Concrete, held January 20 through 24 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, may have suffered from its every-three-year competition with the Conexpo-Con/Agg show, but exhibitor space told a story of success.

Registered attendance at the 2014 World of Concrete dropped 12.5 percent to about 48,000, a number eerily similar to that experienced in 2011 – the last time the concrete show was scheduled within weeks of Conexpo. The global construction industry has been gearing up again for the triennial Conexpo-Con/Agg, which will be held March 4 through 8, 2014, in Las Vegas.

But while 2014 World of Concrete attendance totals resembled those from a much more dire point in the construction economic cycle, Conexpo competition eroded the concrete show’s exhibit space only half as much as in 2011. World of Concrete 2014’s 1,250 exhibitors filled 570,000 sq. ft. of exhibit space – 6 percent less than in 2013, but 11 percent more than in 2011.

World of Concrete 2015 will be held Feb. 3-6; Seminars Feb. 2-6 at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nev.
