While excavation work started several months ago, the official groundbreaking and start of the construction phase for the $672 million Atlanta Braves new stadium is scheduled for September 16, 2014. Plans are for the new stadium in Cobb County to be completed in time for Opening Day 2017.

The stdium will feature a three deck design with 41,500 seats. The middle and upper decks will be cantilevered over each lower deck to keep fans closer to the action. Plus a canopy said to be about three times larger than most ballparks will help keep fans comfortable during all types of weather.
