Seattle Contractor Uses Old and New Processes to Speed Up Construction

Seattle contractor Turner uses a system it calls "a motion economy" to keep crews working efficiently and keep the project one month ahead of schedule

Contractor Turner is using lessons learned from early 1900s to simplify the construction process on a South Lake Union jobsite known as Block 45. The contractor is fabricating steel for right-handed workers, which is the majority of workers onsite. They are also using only two sizes of bolts. In addition, the contractors is using two cranes instead of one for lifting the steel. This allows them to use two raising crews, which cuts down on overtime.

The 306,000-square-foot mixed-use office tower is scheduled for completion in August 2015.
