The proposed Dakota Access pipeline would travel from North Dakota to Illinois with construction possibly starting late in 2015

The proposed 1,100-mile pipeline would carry oil from North Dakota through South Dakota, Iowa and Illinois. The $3.7 billion project proposed by Texas-based Energy Transfer Partners is now looking for public input on the pipeline which could transport nearly half of the crude oil produced in North Dakota's oil fields.

Project spokeswoman Vicki Granado says the pipeline is still working to get state-by-state approval so it's likely construction wouldn't start until later in 2015. If approved, the project could create 2,000 to 2,000 new construction jobs in South Dakota. Granado says the company will also be looking to hire locally, although that isn't a guarantee.
