Chicago Contractors Must Pay Employees $13 an Hour Minimum Wage

Following an executive order from Mayor Rahm Emanuel, the Chicago Housing Authority will now require all contractors and subcontractors pay their employees at least $13 an hour

Chicago Tribune

The Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) has agreed to require contractors and subcontractors to pay workers at least $13 an hour. Many contractors were already required to pay $11.93 an hour under the city's living wage ordinance established under form mayor Richard Daley. Current mayor, Rahm Emanuel pushed for the higher minimum wage by signing an executive order in early September. Emanuel's administration estimates that if all the agencies — CHA, the Public Building Commission, Chicago Public Schools, the Chicago Transit Authority, Chicago City Colleges and the Chicago Park District — roughly 2,400 employees will see their hourly pay go up.
