The fourth and final legislative hearing in a series on how to replenish the New Jersey state Transportation Trust Fund is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 20, in Atlantic City.
Virtually all of the fuel- and sales-tax revenue flowing into the trust fund – which supports state road, rail and bridge projects and maintenance – is being spent on the state's annual transportation debt service, which has continued to rise steeply almost since the fund was established in 1984.
Assemblyman John Wisniewski has introduced a bill to raise the tax by 25 cents per gallon in order to roughly double the annual amount raised for the trust fund.
