Calif. Republicans Want to Stop Funding High-Speed Rail Construction

Thirteen republicans from the state of California are asking the House Appropriations Committee to include provisions in the new spending bill to prohibit funds for the state's high-speed rail project

The Hill

Republicans in California sent a letter to the House Appropriations Committee Chairman and ranking Democrate asking that the new spending bill prohibit funds for high-speed rail in the state. The thirteen republicans asking for the provisions say the high-speed rail project currently under construction no longer meets what the voters approved back in 2008. The costs of the construction has risen from $33 billion originally to over $100 billion before the scope of the project was trimmed to the current $68 billion.
