Bertha Rescue Pit 75% Complete

Crews have dug 90 feet of the planned 120-foot rescue tunnel after digging was stalled two weeks so the pit walls could be made watertight

Puget Sound Business Journal

Workers spent the last two weeks making the walls of the tunnel boring access pit to reach the stuck Bertha tunneling machine watertight. Now digging of the pit has resumed. The pit, which will be 120 feet deep when complete, is now 90 feet deep. Crews are now alternating between digging and sealing the pit walls.

Workers have also nearly finished a large rectangular crane which will be used to lift the cutting head.
