Washington Light-Rail Expansion Receives $1.33B TIFIA Loan

The $4 billion light rail expansion has also received over $88 million in funds from the USDOT

U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx announced Sound Transit will received a $1.33 billion federal load for the the construction of the $4 billion East Link Light-Rail Extension project. The 14.5-mile extension will help connect some of the region's most populated areas to Sound Transit's existing rail system which runs from downtown Seattle to SeaTac Airport. In addition to the latest TIFIA loan, the USDOT is also contributing $74.7 million in Federal Transit Administration funds and $14 million in Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery V funds.

Construction of the extension is planned to start later this year with scheduled completion in 2023.
