US, Canada to Build Customs Plaza

A deal between the two countries will see Canada pay for the construction of the plaza on a new bridge while the US government will finance its operations

The Detroit News

A new bridge connecting Detroit and Windsor will also feature a new U.S. customs plaza, a co-project between the U.S. and Canada. A Canadian public-private partnership will oversee the bridge project and pay for building the plazas on both sides of the border. The U.S. will staff, operate and maintain the Detroit customs plaza. The publicly financed bridge is scheduled to be built just two miles from the privately owned and operated Ambassador Bridge, which is scheduled for a 2020 completion.
