Canadian Oilsands Project Lays Off 1,000 Construction Workers

Workers for contractor Saipem Canada were surprised to show up to work and find a notice that their jobs had been terminated effective immediately

The Vancouver Sun

Around 1,000 unionized construction workers for contractor Saipem Canada arrived on the job at the Husky Energy Sunrise oilsands project only to find notice that their jobs were immediately ending. The notice said the contract between Saipem and Husky had been terminated and the workers were to pack up and leave the site that day. All the workers had expected to be employed on site until sometime between May and August.
