A House Appropriations subcommittee advanced the $77 billion spending bill to fund military construction as well as maintenance projects and veterans' benefits. The bill provides $7.7 billion for military construction, which is $904 more than the 2015 level but still below President Obama's budget request. The funds would be for construction and renovation projects on military bases around the world. The bill is scheduled for a vote before the House leaves for its May recess.
