Boston's Postponed Convention Center Expansion Could Affect Other Area Construction Projects

A proposed hotel and two parking garages could be scaled back or even canceled as a result of postponed convention center construction

Governor Charlie Baker and his administration have halted the $1 billion expansion of the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center. The expansion's architect and the departing convention center authority executive director both said that delays in the project risk driving up the project's debt and construction costs.

Postponing the expansion could also have a ripple effect on other development projects in the South Boston area including a large hotel and two parking garages that had been planned.
