According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics's annual report of Nonfatal Occupational Injuries and Illnesses Requiring Days Away From Work, construction laborers ranked 8th for injury and illness incidence rates in 2014 with 309.7. Construction laborers were also among the six occupations with incidence rate of injuries and illnesses per 10,000 full-time workers greater than 300 and the number of cases with days away from work was greater than 10,000.

Sprains, strains and tears were the most common injuries for construction laborers with an 83.3 incidence rate followed by fractures with a 32.2 incidence rate. Construction laborers total days away from work was 22,190 for the year with the highest cases requiring 31 days or more away from work and the average number of days away from work being nine.

The majority of cases in the construction industry occurred among men and those between the ages of 25 and 34.
