MBTA Ends Contracts with Four Firms Working on Green Line Extension

White-Skanska-Kiewit, HDR/Gilbane, Stanton Constructability Services and AECOM/HNTB all removed from Green Line extension project

Boston Globe

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) has ended contracts with White-Skanska-Kiewit, HDR/Gilbane, Stanton Constructability Services and AECOM/HNTB who are all working on the Green Line extension project.

The Green Line project has seen cost overruns reach about $1 billion as well as other problems with the project.

The search is on for a new manager to oversee the project. Although state officials warned they could still abandon the project, it could also put the remaining design and construction work out to bid again.

White-Skanska-Kiewit, a consortium of major construction firms, was hired to build the project. HDR/Gilbane, another consortium, was serving as a project manager. Stanton Constructability Services was retained to estimate the costs of the project. AECOM/HNTB was selected to serve as the final designer for the project.
