Rio Reports 11 Construction Worker Deaths During Construction for 2016 Olympics

The 11 reported deaths may seem low, but not compared to the zero deaths in preparations for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London

According to Rio de Janeiro's Regional Labor and Employment Office, 11 people have died while working on Olympic facilities or related projects between January 2013 and March 2016. That compares to zero worker deaths in preparation for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

Three deaths occurred on the Metro Line 4 work while other deaths occurred during work on museums and highway work. Accidents varied from electric shock, falls, vehicular incidents and others. 

Two non-fatal accidents including one worker being hospitalized for electric shock and another needing his leg amputated.
