Starwood Hotels intends to transform Detroit’s historic Metropolitan Building – vacant more than 40 years – into a mixed-use development featuring a 100,000-sq.-ft. eco-hotel, introducing its Element brand to the Motor City.

Starwood Hotels & Resorts intends to transform Detroit’s historic Metropolitan Building – vacant more than 40 years – into a high-end mixed-use development featuring its eco-hotel brand Element Hotels.

The 100,000-square-foot hotel in the Motor City landmark will be owned and constructed by Metropolitan Hotel Partners LLC, a joint venture between Detroit-based Means Group and Roxbury Group. It is scheduled to open in July 2018.

The neo-gothic 14-story structure, once known as the Jewelers Building, opened in 1925 as a jewelry emporium.
