The Illinois budget crisis could soon impact road construction projects. The Illinois Department of Transportation has warned contractors to prepare for a complete shutdown, if there is no budget or emergency funding in place by July 1.

That means more than $2 billion worth of state construction work will be put on hold. It also means thousands of workers could be out of a job.

Gov. Bruce Rauner is hoping a stopgap measure could be approved that would include money for construction projects.
