North Carolina: Loop Signs Steer Traffic to Old Route

TAFT WIREBACKNews & Record (Greensboro, NC)

GREENSBORO, NC - Residents of southwest Greensboro soon should have a good idea whether diverting Interstate 40 back to its original route will bring them much relief from highway noise.

Work crews have been replacing overhead signs along the interstate near Gallimore Dairy Road, redirecting eastbound I-40 motorists away from the Greensboro Urban Loop and back on the interstate's original route.

Crews labored overnight Sunday and were scheduled Monday night to replace the "huge diagramatic signs" above the highway at the juncture of I-40, Interstate 73 and the loop.

"They still have some work to do out there and a little bit farther along I-40," said Patty Eason, a DOT construction engineer for Division 7, which includes Greensboro.
