American Concrete Pavement Association

The American Concrete Pavement Association (ACPA) will present its coveted "Main Street USA" recognition award to the City of Reno.

Who: Accepting the award (as planned) will be Mayor Bob Cashell; Public Works Director Neil Mann, P.E.; and Senior Civil Engineer Skip Leedy, P.E., on behalf of the City of Reno, Nevada. Co-presenting the award (and representing the concrete pavement industry) will be Scott Haislip, Director of Streets & Roads, American Concrete Pavement Association, Skokie, Illinois, and Craig Hennings, Executive Director of the Southwest Chapter-ACPA, Modesto, Calif.

What: Virginia Street from the Truckee River to 4th Street has been transformed to enhance the shopping experience, as well as to make the area more attractive to visitors of downtown Reno. Wider sidewalks, new décor, and safer crosswalks are just a few of the amenities included in the project.

When: The award will be presented this Wednesday, February 13, 2008. The award will be presented during the city council's regular bi-monthly meeting, which begins at approximately 10 a.m.

Why: Officials of the City of Reno demonstrated leadership and vision in rehabilitating this area, which is key to tourism and commerce. In recognition of the enhancements, as well as the creative use of decorative concrete in revitalizing this area, the American Concrete Pavement Association is presenting its "Main Street USA" recognition award to the City of Reno.
