ARLINGTON, VA - The National Utility Contractors Association is pleased to announce that charismatic business entrepreneur and consultant Barry Wishner will close out Utility Construction EXPO '10--All Together Now, January 10-13, 2010 at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort in Orlando, Florida. Titled "DONE!...Stop Talking, Stop Waiting, Start Doing," Wishner's presentation is about getting great business ideas off the drawing board and into practice. Nothing if not thorough, he is currently having advance conversations with selected NUCA members so that he can customize his insights to meet the specific needs of his EXPO '10 audience.
A down-to-earth speaker who takes complex ideas and distills them into everyday language, Wishner will explain to attendees how to make the leap from talking and waiting to actual implementation. The topic is also the subject of his forthcoming book, DONE! The Only Business Principle That Matters, which is scheduled for release in 2010. A newsmaker who is often featured in USA Today, The Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, and CNN Financial News, Wishner has a humorous, high-energy delivery that comes from his early childhood performances on NBC doing juggling and magic with his father, the original "Magic Clown," and Shari Lewis & Lamb Chop.
Wishner likes nothing better than creating and running unique companies. After working for large organizations (Saga and Marriott) he decided to start his own business, ProFormance, a management consulting firm with over $50 million in revenues. His company has owned and operated a variety of businesses, including management consulting for the health care industry, an award-winning restaurant in Santa Monica, California and designing, building and operating retirement communities in California and Nevada. A civic leader who supports his community, Wishner also donates his time and expertise to the American Heart Association, Santa Clara Methodist Retirement Foundation, Jewish Welfare Federation, the Japanese Federation, and the Elks.
Wishner started serving as an adviser to business leaders in 1993, when he began his personal, in- depth interviews with more than 350 Fortune 500 CEOs and another 2000 high-powered business leaders, news-making entrepreneurs, and groundbreaking innovators. In the process he identified The DNA of the World's Most Admired Leaders and How Tomorrow's Business Leaders Will Change the World of Business. His ongoing research studies include: How Remarkable CEOs Use Business Execution as the Competitive Edge; How America's Most Talented Presidents and CEOs Use Uncommon Leadership to Stay on Top; Study of Executive Assistants to Fortune 500 CEOs; and a Global CEO Study of Timeless Leadership Styles. Wishner also team-teaches a marketing program titled the Anatomy of a Booking with his wife and Proformance business partner Barbara.
Growing up in New York in humble circumstances, Wishner adopted what he calls "Brooklyn Smarts" to survive and fight for what he wanted. He obtained scholarships to Pratt Institute and then graduate school at CCNY. After college he joined the Air Force as a Captain and served as a hospital administrator under the Surgeon General. He has been an adjunct professor at Golden Gate University (where he lectured on High Performance Leadership), City College of San Francisco's Business School, and Canada College Management School.
