BUSINESS: Pennsy Supply, Inc. Acquires Delaware-Based Pioneer Concrete

HARRISBURG , Pa., May 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Pennsy Supply, Inc. of the Mid-Atlantic Group of Companies of Oldcastle Materials, announced today that it has acquired Pioneer Concrete, Inc. of Wilmington , Del. Oldcastle Materials, Inc. is the leading vertical integrated supplier of aggregates, asphalt, ready-mix concrete and paving services in the United States and is one of four divisions of CRH plc, the international building materials group. Oldcastle's Mid-Atlantic Group includes Pennsy Supply of Harrisburg , Pa., Slusser Brothers, based in Hazleton, Pa., and Tilcon-Delaware of Dover , Del.

Established in 1993, Pioneer Concrete includes four concrete plants located in Wilmington, Bear and Dover, Del., and Avondale, Pa. The 120-employee company provides ready-mix concrete and concrete pumping services for residential, industrial, highway and commercial contractors throughout Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania.

The Mid-Atlantic Group of Oldcastle Materials, Inc. supplies aggregate, asphalt, concrete and paving services throughout the mid-Atlantic region. It is led by Harrisburg, Pa.-based Pennsy Supply and includes Slusser Brothers of Hazleton, Pa., Tilcon-Delaware of Dover, Del.,and Pioneer Concrete of Wilmington, Del. Together, the Mid-Atlantic Group accounts for $280 million in annual revenue; more than 1,200 employees; and operates 10 aggregate quarries, 4 sand and gravel pits, 10 ready-mix concrete plants, 13 asphalt plants and 4 rail stone depots across Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland.
