Oakland Man Arrested at Construction Site

An Oakland man was cited for petty theft early Tuesday morning after he was found hiding under floorboards at a Piedmont construction site.

Daniel Kim, 36, admitted to stealing wood molding from the site at the 20 block of Hampton Road.

"These were nice planks, not just discarded lumber," said Piedmont police Capt. John Hunt.

Sgt. Brian Haley investigated the site about 1:30 a.m. when he noticed an unfamiliar truck parked nearby with a warm engine. He soon discovered Kim's leg sticking out a hole in the floorboards.

Because Kim had a valid driver's license and the theft was minor, Haley cited and released him. Kim will appear in court March 28.
