Plummeting Crane Kills Two Workers

The Miami Herald (Florida)

Mar. 26--The 14,000-pound slab of yellow, honeycombed steel plummeted 37 stories to the ground, smashing clean through a nearby building.

Two construction workers died inside that building -- as they stood in the project's safety office. Four other workers were injured.

"It looks like a meteor hit the roof of that house," said Miami Fire-Rescue Capt. Craig Radelman.

Investigators sought overnight to determine the cause of South Florida's latest construction accident, this one at a luxury condominium being built at 2066 N. Bayshore Dr., just north of downtown Miami.
