A state trooper said he expected to find body parts when he first saw the destruction at a building site along Route 15.
A roller belonging to a Camp Hill contractor was overturned, on its side, after apparently being driven through a soybean field. Another piece of heavy equipment, a scraper, had been used to knock down trees, and a six-wheel tanker had been crashed into a tree at the foot of a 30-foot embankment.
One person at the scene initially thought two of the pieces of equipment were trash, Trooper Matthew Burrows said.
There was no sign of injury, but vandals might have caused as much as $1 million damage to the equipment owned by Pavex Inc., police said.
